Here at WHM Fresh we are more than just a group of individuals working on a shared goal.
It takes the care and expertise of every employee to make a successful business, and most importantly
for us at WHM, an open, healthy working environment for every individual to thrive in.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Matias started his career with an award-winning, UK fresh fruit import company while still studying Agronomy at Chile’s Pontifica Universidad Catolica de Chile. Upon graduating, he worked in the UK head office as Senior Procurement Manager for four years before becoming General Manager of the Chile branch. With more than a decade’s experience behind him, he set up WHM in 2020. Matias works on professional, trust-based business relationships and holds quality of fruit and environmental sustainability at the company’s core. When not visiting growers and crunching numbers he can be found at the beach with his family – usually snoozing on his surfboard beyond the break.
Ana Karina Bernal
Ana Karina trained as an aquaculture engineer but then unexpectedly found her calling in the world of fruit. She began her career with a renowned exporter of Chilean table grapes as a cold store receptionist. With a few years’ experience behind her, she is now in charge of planning, coordinating, and supplying WHM’s commercial programme where she is always looking to reduce environmental impact by sourcing recyclable materials. When she’s not calculating costs she goes back to her roots, escaping with her family to somewhere surrounded by water.
José Luis Romero
José Luis has more than 13 years’ experience in fresh fruit sales and marketing. He began his career in Europe as a commercial and technical representative for a well-known export company specialising in table grapes where he was soon promoted to Export Manager. A few years later, he took a sideways move to the Chilean subsidiary of one of Italy’s largest fresh fruit businesses. He has extensive experience with a range of products including grapes, cherries, pears, and apples. When WHM CEO Matias offered him the challenge in late 2022, he didn’t hesitate to accept. In his role, he searches for new clients and suppliers and maintains close ties with existing commercial networks. At the end of the day he enjoys listening to music and playing his guitar.
Ismael Frías del Valle
Ismael qualified as a lawyer in 2015. His career has largely focused on corporate law and he has represented various Chilean and international companies. He has been part of the WHM team from the start, working as an advisor to both the company and its directors. In his free time he enjoys a game of tennis, makes the most of the outdoors, the beach and the mountains with his family, and he also loves to relax with a good book.
Research and Development Manager
Emilio is Research and Development Manager at WHM and an aquaculturist by profession. His career in the fruit export industry began at a table grape export company ten years ago where he gained significant experience. He has a wide range of skills and is highly adaptable so he is able to move seamlessly throughout the organisation. When he came to WHM he found a world of possibilities and a unique opportunity to learn about and experience the export industry and the new technological tools available in the market. When he’s not working, his passion is to share memorable moments with family and friends.
Juan Carlos Sáez
Field Agronomy Advisor
Since graduating as an agricultural technician from the Instituto de Educación Rural, Juan Carlos has worked in farm production. His main role in the company is to contract producers and coordinate technical operations in the field. He has been part of the company from the start and is a veteran among the team. In his free time he enjoys swimming and fishing whether in the sea, lake, or river. When he goes camping in the mountains, he likes to contemplate the stars, the moon, and the rising sun.
Field Operations, Supply and Distribution
Carlos began working in the world of agriculture and export at a very young age as he grew up on a farm that exported table grapes. A mechanical engineer by profession, in his youth he worked the packing season in warehouses with products for export where he was involved in distribution and stocktaking. His work with other export companies included table grapes, tangerines, lemons, oranges, and avocados. Today he divides his time between the areas of production in Aconcagua and Colchagua, and his beloved Coquimbo Region where he lives with his fiancée and his faithful guard-dog – a nine-year-old Pug named Bubba.
Food Safety Agronomy Advisor
Isidora gained her degree in Agricultural Engineering from the Universidad Mayor in 2019. Her first work experience was in quality control in cherry orchards and vineyards. Over the last two years prior to joining the WHM team she gained experience with blueberries, cherries, plums, nectarines, grapes and kiwis at a prestigious agricultural consultancy firm, and in 2022 spent time in the UK providing cherry processing services. Isi loves spending time with her sheep and dogs. She also likes to go camping in different parts of Chile with her friends and Scouts.
Tamara is a field agronomist. She graduated from the Universidad Católica del Maule and has gained experience in quality control and research where the latter inspired her to work in the field. She is the newest member of the WHM team, and her main role is producer care and quality support in packing. After working hard in the field, she really likes reading and practising sports, especially hiking.
